The St. Joseph Mustangs find themselves in a drought as they go 0-2 in league contests this weekend.
Neither opponent allowed the Mustangs to impose any of the typical rallying the Mustangs were able to do last season.
The Sedalia Bombers played spoiler on Saturday night for the Mustangs who were riding a two-game win streak at the time the teams took the field. Despite a strong start from Mustangs starting pitcher Brandon Stone, who struck out five batters in the first three innings he pitched, the Bombers were able to strike first in the top of the third on a fielder’s choice RBI up the middle by Dalton Miller to score the first two runs of the game. From there on, Sedalia created enough separation while keeping the Mustang offense at bay as the Mustangs suffered their second loss of the week 10-2.
Carrying the loss on their shoulders into Sunday evening for their first of three consecutive road games to start the new week, St. Joseph struck first against the Jefferson City Renegades, but would eventually be dismantled in later innings with a final score of 17-7.
The Renegades would score four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead. The loss makes it now 3-4 for the Mustangs in their last seven games with still two more games to play on the road this week.
With a 5-4 record, The Mustangs will travel to Clarinda on Monday night for the start of a two-game series with the A’s.
