ANNANDALE, Va. - Dolores Ann Wells passed away on June 26, 2023, in Annandale, Virginia. She was born in St. Joseph at St. Joseph's Hospital (Sisters' Hospital) on Jan. 2, 1950, to Zip and Dolores (Allen) Wells. Dolores graduated from Bishop LeBlond High School in 1968. She earned her bachelor's in microbiology from Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska. She moved to the Washington, D.C. area and resided there for more than 50 years, retiring from the National Institutes of Health as an analyst in 2018. Dolores was a two-time cancer survivor and two-time stroke survivor. She loved walks outdoors, was a voracious reader of many books and was a loyal subscriber to the Washington Post.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Lee Wells in 1976; her mother, Dolores, in 1999; and her father, Zephaniah "Zip" Wells, in 2010.
Survivors include Dolores' brothers, Richard Wells (Sue), Robert Wells (Debbie), all of St. Joseph; nephew, Brandon Wells, of Kansas City; niece, Carissa Crabb and great-nephew, Oliver Crabb of St. Joseph.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, in St. Joseph, at a future date.
