SMITHVILLE — Smithville School Resource Officers Joe Buchheit and Chris Mendoza are hosting a summer safety academy Monday through Friday, July 10 to July 14, for students who will be going into kindergarten through fifth grade in the coming school year.Â
This is a free event where snacks and water will be provided. Students will learn about law enforcement, fire, EMS, storm, park and internet safety.
Buchheit shared students will be divided into two age groups: kindergarten to second grade and third to fifth grade. Participants will meet from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Smith Fork Park shelter located near the spillway of Smithville Lake. Space is reserved for students who reside in Smithville.
There are still openings for this program, Buchheit said. Registration is available on the Smithville Missouri School Resource Officer Facebook page or on the Smithville Police Department Facebook page.
